Gary A. King, CEO
Gary entered the corporate insurance arena in 2004 as a Senior Underwriter for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company. While in this role, Gary was immediately indoctrinated into the world of specialty insurance, working side by side with some of the most experienced professionals in the business.
Quickly learning his trade, Gary was promoted to an Underwriting Consultant in 2005 and given the opportunity to manage Mutual of Omaha’s collegiate sports portfolio. During this time, Gary fine tuned his risk management skills and successfully guided the company to nearly doubling its collegiate sports premium volume while simultaneously maintaining profit objectives. He is credited with being one of the original architects of the “NCAA Group Basic Accident Insurance Program”, launched in the Fall of 2006, and also for developing some of the company’s most precise underwriting techniques used today to evaluate group consortiums, aggregate deductible (partially self-funded), and fully self-insured plans.
In the winter of 2007, Gary transitioned into a new role as Mutual of Omaha’s Special Risk Sales Executive. In this position, Gary was charged with expanding the company’s distribution points, balancing the company’s penetration into select markets, and establishing a nationwide presence in the special risk marketplace. By the fall of 2011, Gary had more than tripled the number of distributors working with the company’s Special Risk Division and delivered an excess of $30,000,000 in new sales.
As CEO of Cypress Risk Management, Gary is charged with executing the business strategy and providing strategic direction and oversight. With a unique combination of experiences in underwriting, product development and sales, Gary’s skill set offers a powerful resource for his clients when negotiating terms with insurance carriers. Gary holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sioux Falls and a Master of Business Administration from Creighton University.
